President Raeisi orders construction of renewable energy power plant
Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi has ordered the implementation of the largest plan in the West Asia region for the construction of a renewable energy power plant in the country.
In a meeting with Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian in Tehran on Monday, Raeisi signed an agreement for the construction of a 4,000-megawatt renewable energy power plant in the country, the largest construction plan among renewable wind and solar power plants in West Asia.
The power plant is expected to be put into operation before next summer to redress the imbalance in energy when the electricity consumption rate hits its peak.
After the implementation of the plan, the power generation capacity from renewable sources, which was about 870 MW when Raeisi's administration took office and is currently about 1,119 MW, will increase to more than 5,119 MW.
The regional power companies in the provinces of Tehran with 32%, Fars with 10% and Sistan and Baluchistan with 9% are the provinces that have the largest share in the construction of the planned 4,000-MW solar power plant in the country.
The Iranian president also launched the 10-megawatt Saghand power plant in the central province of Yazd as part of a 260-megawatt capacity added to the country's total renewable electricity production over the past two years.
There are 381 renewable energy power plants with a capacity of about 11,000 megawatts across Iran.
Iran’s Energy Ministry has a plan to reach a 10,900-megawatt increase in energy production capacity from renewable sources.
