Sri Lankans rally outside US embassy, denounce its support for Israel

Hundreds of protesters have gathered in front of the US embassy in Colombo, Sri Lanka, to express their solidarity with Palestinians and condemn Washington's support for Tel Aviv.

Protesters held placards expressing support for Palestine and chanting slogans such as 'Stop the genocide!' and "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!"

Some protesters also brandished signs featuring the images of US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, labeling them as "murderers" and "criminals."

The protest, organized by 'The People's Struggle Movement,' initially remained peaceful. However, tensions boiled over later resulting in clashes with the police. As a result, five protesters were detained by the police and one officer sustained an injury during the confrontation.
