Iran censures 'hateful, spiteful' moves against Islam, Holy Qur'an: President Raeisi
President Ebrahim Raeisi says Iran strongly condemns "hateful and spiteful" actions that take place in some parts of the world against Islam.
Raeisi made the remark in a Monday congratulatory message to the leaders and nations of Muslim countries on the auspicious occasion of the birth anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
He added that sacrilegious acts against Islam hurt the feelings of Muslim people across the globe.
He described Islam as the religion of freedom and equality and the Holy Qur'an as the book of mercy and wisdom.
"Insulting the Holy Qur'an, a precious miracle of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), is an insult to humanity, freedom, values and spirituality," the Iranian president said.
Several cities across the Netherlands, Sweden, and Denmark have witnessed the instances of the desecration of the Muslim holy book since the beginning of the year.
The blasphemous gestures, all of which have taken place with the go-ahead given by the countries' respective governments and amid protection provided by their security forces, have opened the floodgates of protest across the Muslim world.
Raeisi also expressed hope that unity and integrity would be reinforced among all Muslim nations and Islam would be promoted across the world with the help of the Holy Qur'an and determination of the leaders of the Muslim countries and nations.
The Prophet of Islam was born on the 17th day of the lunar calendar month of Rabi-ul-Awwal in 570 CE. The date also marks the birth anniversary of Imam Ja’far Sadiq (AS), the sixth Shia Imam, which falls on Tuesday this year.
According to the Sunni narrative, the birth date of the Prophet (PBUH) falls on Rabi-ul-Awwal 12.
As per a call made by the late founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini, the week in between the two dates has been designated as “the Islamic Unity Week” to promote convergence among Muslims.
