Palestinians have held a funeral for a victim of the latest Israeli aggression in the occupied territories. Earlier today, Israeli forces killed a young Palestinian man during a raid on a refugee camp in the West Bank.
Niger-France tensions
Niger's military-appointed prime minister has once again called for the swift withdrawal of French forces from his country. Zeine's comments came as anti-French sentiments remain high in the coup-hit West African nation. Nigerians have been staging rallies for days to demand France withdraw its forces stationed at a military base in the capital Niamey. The premier also touched upon the order for the French ambassador to leave Niger. He said the envoy displayed an attitude of contempt by refusing to meet the junta leaders.
Push for Assange freedom
A group of Australian lawmakers will visit the US later this month to demand an end to Washington’s push to get WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange extradited to the country. Ryan cited surveys, saying more than nine out of ten Australians think Assange should now come home. The lawmaker added that the Australian government needs to protect its citizen who is, in her words, responsible only for acts of journalism. The comments and the travel plan come ahead of a visit by the Australian premier to the US. Assange has been confined in a UK jail since April 2019 after losing the protection of the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where he had taken refuge. He is wanted in the US for espionage, after leaking classified documents related to war crimes in Afghanistan and Iraq on his whistleblower website. If convicted, he could face up to 175 years in jail.
