Tensions over Taiwan

The United States has announced a $345-million weapons package for Taiwan, taking the total value of arms allotted to the island this year to one billion dollars.

To expedite the delivery, Washington has used what is known as the Presidential Drawdown Authority to pull the weapons and equipment directly from the inventory of the Department of Defense.
