Settler violence

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry has blamed the Israeli prime minister for settler attacks against Palestinians amid the rise in such assaults in the occupied territories. The ministry said the attacks, which are incited by some far-right Israeli ministers, is a policy adopted by the regime’s cabinet to murder Palestinians. It also condemned rising crimes committed by the Israeli forces against Palestinians. On Saturday, settlers torched two Palestinian homes and the regime’s forces killed yet another Palestinian in the occupied territories. The incidents came days after Israeli forces killed several Palestinians in a raid on the West Bank city of Jenin. Israel has intensified crackdown against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Al-Quds in recent months.

Greece elections

Let’s turn to the Greece elections, where an exit poll indicates that former Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitso-takis, is on course to win a second term by a landslide. The poll by six agencies shows that the New Democracy Party is way ahead with up to 44 percent of the votes. The leftist Syriza party, led by Alexis Tsipras, is trailing by less than 20 percent. This is the second time in little more than a month that the Greeks have gone to the polls to elect a new parliament. The New Democracy party won the vote 20 points clear of its rival. But Mitso-takis called new elections before stepping down in a bid to govern Greece alone.

Sudan conflict

Fighting surges in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, as the war between the two rival militaries enters its 11th week. Clashes in residential areas left scores of dead bodies lying in the streets. The army has been using air strikes and heavy artillery to try to dislodge the R S F paramilitary forces from neighborhoods across the capital. This is as the R S F claims it has seized the headquarters of a police unit, loaded with stacks of ammunition. Fighting has increased since a series of ceasefire deals failed to stick. The truce talks were adjourned last week. The power struggle that broke out in mid-April has killed thousands of people. It has also caused a humanitarian crisis and displaced two-and-a-half million people. The UN has also raised the alarm about ethnic targeting.
