Oman's top cleric congratulates Palestinian resistance on enhancing defensive capability

Oman's Grand Mufti Ahmed bin Hamad al-Khalili

Oman's grand mufti has congratulated the Gaza Strip-based Palestinian resistance groups on their managing to enhance their defensive capability in the face of the Israeli regime's constant aggression.

Tweeting on Friday, Ahmed bin Hamad al-Khalili said, "We salute Palestine's brave resistance, and congratulate their success in expanding their defensive capacities."

The Palestinian movements' enhanced defensive capabilities, he added, "managed to terrify the occupying enemy, prevent its oppressive aggression, and push it back."

Gaza's resistance movements, Hamas and the Islamic Jihad, fired thousands of rockets towards the occupied territories as part of the operation Sword of al-Quds, which they staged against the Israeli regime's last war on the enclave in 2021.

The sheer scale of the defensive operation forced the regime to start negotiating a ceasefire.

The Omani cleric's remarks came shortly after the Gaza-based groups fired as many as 22 rockets into the occupied territories in response to Israeli airstrikes targeting the coastal sliver.

The occupying regime's much-vaunted Iron Dome missile system, however, managed to intercept only four of the projectiles.

Reporting earlier, Ynet, an Israeli news website, said the missile system's failure rate had caused concern among the occupation's military commanders.

According to the website, the system's precision rate had fallen from 96 percent last year to just 67.

This prompted the Israeli military to launch a probe into why the system "has exhibited such a significant backslide in performance," the website added, saying that the military was frustrated that the latest failure happened "in broad daylight with high visibility and prior intelligence."

Earlier this year, Hamas said it was capable of deterring any potential Israeli act of aggression.

Speaking in an interview with the Qatar-based broadcaster Al Jazeera on March 26, Khalil al-Hayya, with the Political Bureau of the movement, said the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades -- the military wing of Hamas -- was ready to repeat the 2021 operation Sword of al-Quds if need be.

Hayya said the operation "established great political and field equations" and the resistance in the besieged Gaza Strip became a shield for the Palestinian land.
