Banning TikTok

“An enormous threat”, “An unacceptable national security risk,” “A spy balloon in your phone.” These are descriptions—from members of Congress and American regulators, about the Chinese social-media app TikTok.

Recently, Montana lawmakers passed a bill Friday blocking downloads of TikTok, the most significant action yet by a state yet against the app. Most U.S. citizens know TikTok as the place where they can watch people do stupid dances or post clips of themselves cooking. But apparently for many US officials the app is a platform that would enable the Chinese Communist Party to subvert American national security.
