A selection of rare manuscripts of the Holy Quran, which were calligraphed and illuminated centuries ago, has been put on display at an exhibition in Pakistan.

The week-long exhibition, organized by the cultural section of Iran’s embassy in Islamabad, showcases dozens of rare manuscripts of the Holy Quran written by prominent Iranian and Pakistani artists.

Over 40 historical Quran manuscripts kept by Iran-Pakistan Persian Language Studies Center have been put on display at the event.

Islam’s holy book, the Holy Quran, was revealed in its entirety to Prophet Mohammad some 14 centuries ago during the fasting month of Ramadan. That is why this exhibition takes place during the holy month.

The organizers of the exhibition emphasize the youth of today should be made aware of Quran's significant importance.

Participants in the opening ceremony say the exhibition can be appealing to students and artists and also help develop cultural cooperation between Iran and Pakistan.

The exhibition, which will run till April 7, is expected to attract a large number of visitors, as it provides an opportunity for Muslims to learn about the latest studies on the impact of Quranic teachings on everyday life.
