Iran dismisses State Department’s report, says US has no right to comment on human rights
Iran has roundly dismissed the US State Department’s recent report on the situation of human rights in the country, saying that Washington has no qualification to make a comment about human rights and lecture others on the matter.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kan’ani on Wednesday rejected the annual report as “baseless, illegal, and politically-motivated,” stating that it derives from Washington’s desire to interfere in the internal affairs of independent states.
“The report does not have any credibility to be judged and valued in accordance with the issue of human rights incorporated in international relations, the US government is not qualified to comment on the status of human rights in other countries,” he said.
He also criticized the US's "hypocritical stance" claiming to be defending Iranian people's rights while Washington systematically violates their rights by imposing brutal, unilateral sanctions and supporting terrorist groups.
Kan’ani slammed the brutal behavior of US police against ordinary people, unlawful use of excessive force, structural and systematic discrimination being exercised by the police and judiciary against black people, violation of the rights of minorities and people of color, and suppression of protests as some of the examples of the US's violation of human rights.
"The violent mistreatment of asylum seekers, their detention and inhumane behavior towards them and their children, violation of human rights and racial profiling in prison especially at detention centers in the southern states, and degrading treatment of prisoners are only cases of constant human rights violations in the United States,” Kan’ani added.
