Shia Muslims living across Pakistan have joined in global commemorations as the Muslim World marks the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad’s grandson Imam Hussein, the third Shia Imam.

Those who participated in Imam Hussain’s birthday celebrations say that marking the day would help preserve the legacy of Imam Hussein who sacrificed everything for the sake of Islam.

Like the rest of the Shia Muslims, people in Pakistan celebrate Imam Hussein’s birthday with passion. Shia Muslims make special arrangements to mark the celebrations on the third and fourth of Shaaban in the Lunar Islamic calendar every year to mark the days to celebrate the birthdays of Imam Hussain and his brother Hazrat Abbas respectively.

They also held congregations where scholars and poets present prose and poetry in reverence of Imam Hussain and his companions.

The lovers and faithful followers of Imam Hussain believe that gatherings to commemorate his birth anniversary are actually great opportunities to further share the legacy and teachings of the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad.
