Islamic Revolution anniversary: IRGC calls for unity to defeat enemy’s ‘hybrid war’
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says the key to defeating the enemies' hybrid warfare against the Iranian people is to maintain unity, calling on people to attend nationwide February 11 demonstrations.
In a Friday statement, the IRGC felicitated the 44th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution victory.
The Iranian nation considers the "strategy of unity as a guarantee for the defeat of the enemy's strategy of sowing division and spreading rumors and lies," read the statement, adding that the nation will foil the enemy's plot in its hybrid warfare by following this strategy.
The IRGC is determined to defend the Islamic Revolution and answer the needs of the people and the establishment, it added.
The statement comes as millions of Iranians are set to take to the streets across the country on Saturday to celebrate the 44th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, which overthrew the former US-backed Pahlavi regime in 1979.
The February 11 rallies will be a "historic opportunity" for a "firm response" to enemies, the IRGC stressed.
"Today, the Islamic Revolution and the Iranian nation ... have become one of the biggest military powers in the region and the world after sheer disregard for psychological operations and media scandals of the enemy," the statement added.
"44 years have passed since the glorious and miraculous victory of the Islamic Revolution and the collapse of the dictatorial and dependant Pahlavi regime, but despite the conspiracies and evil efforts of the global Zionist network and arrogant and terrorist America, the flag of the Islamic Republic of Iran stands out above the developments and equations of power in the world," reads the statement.
The Iranian nation overthrew the despotic regime of Pahlavi, which was fully supported by the United States in the winter of 1979. The struggle against the Shah regime reached full fruition on February 11, 1979.
By December 1978, millions of Iranians had taken to the streets in protest against the policies of the shah – Mohammad Reza Pahlavi – on a regular basis.
Imam Khomeini returned to Iran from exile on February 1, 1979. He was received by millions of people weeks after the departure of the shah in mid-January 1979.
The collapse of the Pahlavi regime became certain on February 11 when the military renounced its loyalty to the shah and joined the Revolution.
