IAEA charges intended to justify unilateral US, Israeli actions against Iran: Commentator

The anti-Iran allegations made last week by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are designed to rationalize the unilateral actions of Washington and Tel Aviv against the Islamic Republic, a commentator tells Press TV.

Syed Mohsin Abbas, a London-based journalist and political commentator, said on Sunday that the IAEA is a “completely unprofessional” institution and only acts as an “instrument of pre-aggression.”

On Wednesday, IAEA chief Rafael Grossi accused Iran of making an undeclared change to the interconnection between the two clusters of advanced machines enriching uranium to up to 60% purity at its Fordow plant without giving prior notice.

Mohamad Eslami, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, said Iran had already notified the agency of the inspector’s mistake, yet the agency’s director-general released the false report anyway.

“We gave a letter to the agency that an inspector... made a mistake and gave an incorrect report,” Eslami said, adding, “But yet again the director-general of the agency released this issue to the media.”

Referring to the development, Abbas argued that the goal here is to “basically create scenarios which indict Iran, and [they] basically come up with false charges based on the scenarios they create,” and then “put it up to the media [to create] an environment of Iranophobia.”

They “use those false charges to create aggression, conflict, and war … to justify potential unilateral action by the US and Israel against Iran,” he told Press TV.

Abbas further said that the Islamic Republic of Iran and everything that it stands for are the “number one enemy” of Israel and its Zionist-led mafia’s interests.

He said Israel is a “frontline mechanism” to create division and disunity within the Arab world and a “landing base” for the Anglo-Zionist empire in West Asia.

He lamented that Israel, which he called the nastiest regime in the region, is allowed to continue building this nuclear stockpile and is not subjected to Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) or IAEA inspection, while Iran is said to be “inconsistent” with its obligations under NPT.

“The hypocrisy is profound. And of course, it’s all based on the fact that Israel sees Iran as its primary enemy in West Asia,” Abbas added.

John Bosnitch, a Belgrade-based journalist and political analyst, also told Press TV that if Iran were an occupied American colony, the US would be pushing its nuclear power program and they would actually be suggesting to Iran that it should get involved in their nuclear weapons research program.

“That’s the way this world is run. It is not fair. And you are on the receiving end of the American empire and its Israel partners,” he maintained.

Bosnitch said the IAEA allegations are another “propaganda war against Iran,” adding that Iran is a military target of Israel and the US because they simply want to control every country in the region.

“I suggest that you continue to abide by the agreements that you’ve signed, and continue to develop your civil [nuclear] program, as you’ve said to the public, and to defend yourself in international institutions as best you can.”
