Nepal plane crash

At least 67 people are confirmed dead in Nepal after an aircraft went down in the western Pokhara region. The plane was carrying 72 people including two infants and 10 foreign nationals. The army says they expect to find more bodies as the plane broke into pieces after crashing into a hillside. Nepal’s prime minister has called an emergency cabinet meeting. The incident is the deadliest of its kind in the country since 1992, when a Pakistani-operated airliner crashed near the capital Kathmandu, killing 167 people.

Tel-Aviv protests

Tens of thousands of demonstrators have hit the streets in Tel Aviv to protest against the policies of the right-wing cabinet led by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The Protesters chanted slogans against Netanyahu and carried banners and signs that read a "cabinet of shame” and "bring down the dictator". The demonstration is the biggest since Netanyahu's cabinet took power in late December. Similar rallies were held in al-Quds and Haifa. Netanyahu returned to power at the head of a coalition with extreme-right and ultra-Orthodox parties. The cabinet is planning to hand more powers to lawmakers in appointing judges and overriding the regime’s Supreme Court decisions. It has also announced intentions to pursue a policy of settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank.

State of emergency in Peru

Peru declares a state of emergency in the capital Lima and three other regions due to anti-government protests. The measure will be in force for 30 days. It authorizes the army to intervene to maintain order and suspends several constitutional rights such as freedom of movement and assembly. Peru has been the scene of demonstrations since December following the ouster of former president Pedro Castillo. He is currently in pre-trial detention for attempting to dissolve congress to avoid impeachment. The protesters want his release and the removal of current President Dina Boluarte. Violent protests have so far left 42 people dead and hundreds injured.
