Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri says Iran’s powerful presence in the Persian Gulf region has prevented foreign aircraft carriers from maintaining a foothold in the strategic region.

Speaking at a meeting in Bushehr on Sunday, Baqeri said no aircraft carrier has entered the Persian Gulf in the past two years.

“Even the aircraft carriers that were deployed in the Persian Gulf have left, and they are now over 1,000 miles away from us,” he added.

He also described the Persian Gulf as a strategic region without which the survival of Iran “has no meaning.”

Iran’s enemies, according to Baqeri, have acknowledged that their presence in the Persian Gulf is very dangerous because of the capabilities of Iranian missiles.

The top general also noted that Iran’s military and defensive capabilities have developed significantly compared to the past and the Iranian armed forces are able to foil any plots hatched against the country.

“The enemy cannot do anything in the region” due to the tactfulness of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and the effective presence of the armed forces of the Islamic Republic in the Persian Gulf, he stressed.

Referring to the recent riots across the country, Baqeri said the enemy has launched a media war against Iran and resorted to cyberspace threats because of its desperation to confront Iran militarily.

He said the enemy’s threats aim to foment chaos in Iran and harass the Iranian nation.

Riots broke out in Iran in mid-September after the death of Mahsa Amini. The 22-year-old fainted at a police station in Tehran on September 13 and was pronounced dead three days later in hospital.

An official report by Iran’s Legal Medicine Organization concluded that Amini’s death was caused by illness rather than alleged blows to the head or other vital body organs.

Rioters went on the rampage across the country, brutally attacking security officers and causing massive damage to public property as Western powers, especially the United States, provided support.

The European Union and some western countries have imposed sanctions on Iran over its approach toward the riots.
