Iran have bowed out of the 2022 World Cup after a 1-0 loss to the United States.

Iran conceded in the 38th minute, when Sergino Dest headed down a cross for Christian Pulisic, and the Chelsea striker got to the ball to fire it home.

Knowing that even a draw would send them to the knockout round, Team Melli pushed for the equalizer. They had one great chance to make it happen but Saman Ghoddous’ first-time effort went wide.

With the result, the United States progressed through to the last 16 as group B runners-up behind England.
