Blood Minerals for Tech Giants

The Democratic Republic of Congo is considered to be among the richest countries in the world in terms of natural resources; its untapped deposits of raw minerals are estimated to be worth in excess of 24 trillion dollars.

Despite this, the DRC has some of the poorest people in the word. Numerous reports indicate that global tech giants have been looting Congo’s rare minerals. To add insult to injury, they are buying minerals extracted by children working in slavery-like conditions.

A young Congolese exploited by mostly European and North American tech giants speaks here of missed opportunities.

This week we are focusing on how some of the biggest European and American tech companies are buying minerals extracted using child labor while financing wars in the Central Africa region especially in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The second segment of our show is on the call by the South African President for an end to the sanctions imposed by Western Powers on Zimbabwe. Will these Western neo-colonial powers especially Britain and the US heed the call and stop punishing Zimbabweans?
