A US media report has revealed that the Washington establishment and social media platforms are in collaboration with one another to censor what is referred by them to as online "misinformation”.

The Intercept reported on Monday that the US Big Tech firms, namely, Alphabet (Google), Amazon, Apple, Meta (Facebook) and Microsoft, collaborated with the US government in censoring news on social media platforms that allegedly threatened US interests by spreading misinformation, disinformation and misinformation.

According to the report, the US government has used its power over social media platforms to try to shape online discourse.

“Behind closed doors, and through pressure on private platforms, the US government has used its power to try to shape online discourse,” it reported, quoting Lee Fang and Ken Klippenstein, the investigative journalists who wrote it.

Meetings between representatives of Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, Discord, Wikipedia, Microsoft and LinkedIn and US intelligence officers were held every month, the report said.

To prove the matter, The Intercept cited internal Department of Homeland Security documents obtained through leaks, an ongoing lawsuit, and public records requests.

However, the report stated that the extent to which they spied in the private domain of individuals and the scope of their activities in altering the content remains unknown to the American public.

In 2013, former US National Security Agency employee Edward Snowden leaked classified intelligence documents in this regard.

Recently, Snowden sounded the alarm again, warning that the US was expanding its mass espionage activities across the entire globe.

Pulitzer Prize-winner American investigative journalist Glenn Greenwald has revealed in a recent article that an axis of the CIA, Big Tech and the DNC-allied wing of the corporate media spread an absolute lie in the weeks before the 2020 presidential election to help Biden win the vote.

He wrote that “the CIA, Big Tech, the liberal wing of the corporate media and the Democratic Party” censored and suppressed “a series of major reports about then-presidential frontrunner Joe Biden.
