A young Palestinian man has been killed and four others injured in an Israeli military raid in the northern part of the occupied West Bank with tensions in the occupied territories reaching a boiling point amid the Israeli regime's unbridled belligerence.

The Palestinian official news agency Wafa, citing witnesses, reported that dozens of Israeli forces, accompanied by army bulldozers, stormed the village of Deir al-Hatab, located east of Nablus, on Wednesday afternoon.

The marauding troops ambushed a residential building and opened indiscriminate fire at people in the village in order to force them to surrender.

The building reportedly housed Palestinian resistance fighter Salman Omar, who returned fire for three hours before he ran out of ammunition and was later arrested by the Israeli army.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health identified the victim as 21-year-old Alaa Nasser Ahmed Zaghal.

Zaghal was hit by a bullet in his head, and was transferred to Rafidia Surgical Hospital in Nablus in critical condition. He later succumbed at the hospital.

At least five Palestinians, including journalists Mahmoud Faouzi and Louay al-Samhan, were wounded in the military raid, reports said.

The development came on the day many Palestinian children suffered injuries and breathing difficulties after Israeli military forces stormed al-Khalil Elementary School in the southern part of the West Bank.

Wafa, citing the school principal Qussai Ja’bari, reported that a large battalion of Israeli forces stormed the educational center, situated near the Ibrahimi Mosque, fired several teargas canisters and chased children as they were leaving the school for their homes.

Ja’bari added that many children suffered tear gas inhalation, while others fell and suffered cuts and bruises while running away in fear of getting hurt.

Israeli forces have recently been conducting overnight raids and killings in the northern occupied West Bank, mainly in the cities of Jenin and Nablus, where new groups of Palestinian resistance fighters have been formed.

More than 150 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in the Israeli-occupied territories since the start of the year, including 51 in the besieged Gaza Strip during Israel’s three-day onslaught in August.

More than 30 of those killed were either from Jenin or were killed in the Jenin region.
