August 31 marks one year after chaotic withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan, after 20 years of occupation. Taliban captured Kabul after blitz offensive against Afghan government forces in August 2021.
US blamed al-Qaeda terrorists based in Afghanistan for 9/11 attacks and used it as pretext for invasion of the country, although most of culprits in 9/11 attacks were Saudi Nationals.US forces were on nation building mission, but left Afghanistan in ruins. The country is grappling with myriad of problems while US is unwilling to unfreeze its assets. Top US General Mark Milley admitted in 2021 that Afghan War was a Strategic Failure.
