A sizable number of lawmakers blame the West's aggressive foreign policy towards Moscow for the cost of living crisis currently impacting EU citizens.

A debate in the European Parliament has heard that 22% of people in the EU are struggling to make ends meet. That's almost 100 million citizens who are counting every cent. Apparently, sending weapons to Ukraine is not the answer.

EU financial markets are in turmoil. There are calls for the introduction of a windfall tax. The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has been singled out for criticism in the European Parliament.

There have been calls for greater solidarity between EU member states to deal with the cost of living crisis.

On sanctions against Russia, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said "Initially, I thought that we had only shot ourselves in the foot, but now it is clear that the EU economy has shot itself in the lungs, and is gasping for air."
