Analyst: Biden cannot do much to stem the tide of the downward spiral

The best way to reverse US President Joe Biden’s downward spiral is to announce he's not running in 2024, according to an American political analyst and activist.

In an interview with Press TV on Monday, Myles Hoenig, a former Green Party candidate for Congress, said that Biden and his Democratic Party need to do what the people need, not what they expect they would accept.

Biden’s approval rating has dropped to 29 percent as more and more Americans show dissatisfaction with him due to high inflation and rising gas prices in the country.

The daily tracking survey conducted by Civiqs, an online polling and analytics company, shows that only 29 percent of American registered voters approve of the way Biden is handling his job as the president of the United States.

An astonishing 58 percent of registered voters expressed their disapproval of Biden’s job performance and 13 percent said they are still unsure.

According to the polling results that were published this weekend, more than half of Americans in all age brackets, as well as education- and gender-based groups largely disapprove of the US president’s performance.

“There’s very little that Biden can do to stem the tide of a downward spiral in his approval other than actions that he and his party have no history of doing and loathe to do. That would be to give the voters what they need, not what they think they’ll accept. Single payer health care,” said Hoenig.

“Even today victims of our regular mass killings need a Go Fund Me to pay for treatment and therapy rather than expect treatment on demand. Codify abortion rights. They’ve had 50 years to do it, even at times when they held super majorities. End to all student debt. Even in bankruptcy students will be hounded for the banks’ pound of flesh,” he stated.

“Price controls on the oil industry, including an end to their subsidies. A foreign policy based on human rights, not supporting genocidal wars in Yemen, for example. Vow to end NATO expansionism.  A real infrastructure bill that puts our mass transit on par with the Chinese. Biden needs to come out with a WPA, a la Roosevelt. Get all people back to work,” he noted.

“Probably what is needed most is for him to announce he will not be running in 2024. Ironically, his approval ratings will skyrocket! Even if the Democrats lose, and likely will, at the midterm elections, they’ll be energized as a party to take back Congress and keep the White House in 2024,” he concluded.
