Vienna talks

The US national security advisor has strongly criticized the previous administration for withdrawal from the 2015 accord. It comes as a new round of talks between Iran and the P4+1 countries to revive the agreement, ends in Vienna. Sullivan’s comments echoed those of the US secretary of state. Antony Blinken earlier admitted that abandoning JCPOA isolated the US not Iran. Blinken said Washington’s pullout from the accord was a disastrous mistake. He also admitted that the maximum pressure campaign against Iran only pushed the country to rebuild its nuclear program. The JCPOA was thrown into disarray after the US unilaterally withdrew from the agreement and re-imposed sanctions on Iran in 2018.

Iran response to IAEA

An official at the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran rejects the claim by the International Atomic Energy Agency, regarding the memory card of a camera at Karaj site. The official says the memory card was destroyed in a sabotage operation on the facility in June. The official says it is the IAEA, which should be held to account for failure to prevent such sabotage operations against its members. The official told a news website close to the Supreme National Security Council of Iran that the sources of such operations are clear. Iran blames Israel for the attack. Earlier, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi claimed that footage from the camera damaged in the June incident is missing. It came after the agency and Iran agreed to re-install surveillance cameras inside a centrifuge component manufacturing workshop at the Karaj site.

UNGA support for Palestine

The United Nations General Assembly has passed a resolution affirming Palestinians' sovereignty over the natural resources in the Israeli-occupied territories. The draft resolution was adopted by 156 votes against seven. It calls on Israel to end exploitation of natural resources in the Occupied Palestinian Territories including East Jerusalem al-Quds and in the occupied Syrian Golan. The resolution also demands the regime to avoid damage to the resources. The document also echoes other UN resolutions that describe Israeli settlements and its so-called separation barrier in the occupied West Bank as illegal under international law.
