Iran’s envoy for Afghanistan visits Kabul for talks

Iran’s envoy for Afghanistan Hassan Kazimi Qomi has arrived in Kabul for talks on mutual and regional issues. This is the first time that a high-ranking Iranian delegation visiting Afghanistan since the takeover of the country by the Taliban in August.

In an address to reports upon his arrival in Kabul airport, the Iranian envoy said he would meet senior Taliban officials adding that security and economic issues would top the agenda. He stressed that two neighboring countries need to expand their ties in all areas.

On the other hand, the Taliban have voiced their interest in the expansion of ties with Iran. They vow to continue their talks with the aim of increasing mutual cooperation.

Tehran has stressed the necessity to establish an inclusive government in Afghanistan representing all sections of Afghan society.

Iran has repeatedly condemned any form of terrorism in Afghanistan and expressed its deep concerns over the fate of Afghan civilians particularly following the recent terrorist attacks which left hundreds of Shia Afghans dead or wounded.
