UK winter crisis looms

These are worrying times for British families already finding themselves counting the pennies.

In a period that has already seen fuel shortages resulting in long lines and empty forecourts, hard-working families have also seen price spikes and uncertainty surrounding energy suppliers after several small players in the market went under leading to soaring bills. There are tough times ahead for some.

The divide is exacerbated by the PM getting some holiday sun with his family as millions more struggle but there might be a winter of industrial action on the horizon as workers see only one way out.

As government ministers pass the buck without offering any real solutions, the next few months will be crucial for those already on the breadline.

Winters are always a worrying time for the poor in Britain but the winter of 2021 is shaping to be particularly worrying as families wonder if this is really the year they will be forced to choose between feeding their children or heating their homes.

In the meantime, many will be turning to local charities and foodbanks for support to help where the state has failed.
