Millions of Muslims across Iran have observed Ashura, the 10th day of the lunar calendar month of Muharram, which commemorates the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam and the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), at the Battle of Karbala in the year 680 AD.
