Junior World Championship: Iran win title in freestyle

Iranian freestyle wrestlers have dominantly conquered the 2021 World Junior Championships in Russia, with a tally of five gold medals one silver and a bronze.

Team Iran who had bagged 2 golds and a bronze a day earlier, went on to sweep more on the last day of the event starting with Rahman Amuzad who emerged victorious in the 61 kg class finale after beating his Indian opponent 9-3.

Amir Hossein Firouzpour and Ali Akbarpour also contributed greatly with their respective wins in the final bouts of the 86 and 125kg categories, while Mehdi Hajilouiyan settled for Silver in the 92 kg division.

The results put Iran on 178 points, way beyond the reach of host nation Russia who scored 142 for second-place whereas the United States ended up third on 129 points. The Greco-Roman competitions will start on Friday and run through Sunday.
