Brits celebrate summer solstice at cloud-covered Stonehenge

British Pagans and Druids were undeterred by the unseasonably cool and cloudy weather on Monday (June 21) as they celebrated the summer solstice at Stonehenge.

Revellers scaled the ancient stone circle's perimeter fence in the early hours to witness the daybreak at 04:52 local time (0352 GMT).

While the sunrise was obscured by cloud cover, those in attendance nevertheless carried out their traditional rituals to give thanks to the sun.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site, which archaeologists believe was built between 3000 BC to 2000 BC, is the main place of worship for Britain's Pagan and Neo-Druid communities.
