Abdolnasser Hemmati – ‘An administration focused on reforming economy’

Abdolnasser Hemmati, mainly seen as a moderate politician, is a senior economist and currently serves as governor of the Central Bank of Iran.

He formerly served as vice president of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), governor of the Central Insurance of Iran. He was also the chief executive officer at Sina Bank and Bank Melli Iran.

Born in 1957 in Kabudarahang, a city in Hamedan Province, Hemmati has a Ph.D. in economics from University of Tehran.

He is an associate professor at University of Tehran and teaches macroeconomics and energy economics at other universities as well.

‘An administration focused on reforming economy’

In an Instagram post, Hemmati said the next administration should be focused on making reforms to the country’s embattled economy, which has been the target of harsh American sanctions for years.

“Nothing is more important that the people’s livelihoods. Today is a day for rising up to rebuild Iran and [make it] stronger and more perseverant,” he added.
