The coronavirus pandemic continues to add extra strains on Gaza Strip's ailing economy.

All economic sectors in the impoverished seaside sliver are already suffering because of the Israeli blockade and multiple wars.

Precautionary measures, including lockdowns to prevent the spread of the deadly virus, have weakened the commercial movement and the purchasing power.

According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, unemployment and poverty are further increasing in the enclave because of the pandemic.

The pandemic has threatened the socioeconomic welfare of nearly two million Palestinians living in the blockaded enclave.

Most Gazans are currently finding it hard to provide for their families and around eighty percent of them rely on some form of aid to survive.

Economic repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic in the Gaza Strip, as in the rest of the world, have been grave.

The income of day laborers in Gaza has fallen by almost 90 percent since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and tens of thousands have lost their jobs.

According to UN figures, the Israeli regime is responsible for the near-collapse of Gaza’s economy.

Experts say the coronavirus pandemic has only compounded the dire economic problems in Gaza. About two million Palestinians have been under an Israeli blockade there since 2007.
