Three fully vaccinated in Hawaii infected with coronavirus

Three Americans have been infected with the coronavirus after being fully vaccinated in the island of Hawaii.

One of the patients, a healthcare worker, traveled around the country after getting vaccinated but tested positive later, KITV4 reported.

“You need to be careful during those times when you’re in the airport, on the airplane, with other people in larger groups," said Dr. Melinda Ashton, Chief Quality Officer with Hawaii Pacific Health.

Five people across the state are currently in the ICU over the Covid-19 infection.

"We haven't seen those type of numbers since early early in the pandemic," said Dr. Julius Pham, chair of the Covid-19 committee at Queen's Medical Center. "We're still having about 50-60 cases per day in the state but our hospitalization numbers are down more than the rate of infection in the state."

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, current vaccines are between 66 and 95 percent effective.

Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders compose 41% of COVID-19 cases in Hawaii, but only 8.8% of the community has received at least one dose of the vaccine, according to new data released today by the Hawaii Dept of Health. Story to come @CivilBeat (corrected prev tweet)

"Overtime, as more people get vaccinated, we have more time under our belt with this vaccine, we have a better idea of how long the protection lasts," Dr. Michael Walter, Kalihi-Palama Health Center, said.

Many reports have indicated the inefficiency of the vaccines used to contain the pandemic, yet authorities insisted that people should not be alarmed.

“Remember, 95 percentof people get immunity from the vaccines and 5% don’t from the Moderna and Pfizer vaccine,” Lt. Gov. Josh Green told news station KHON2. “Some people are going to dive on to this and say, oh, then the vaccine doesn’t work. No, it does work. It works in a huge percentage of people, but not everyone and that’s an important message.”

Over 540 thousand people due to the pandemic in the United States with nearly thirty million cases reported.
