Venezuela dismisses UN rights report as politically motivated, demands revision

Caracas has dismissed the alleged human rights violations in a report about Venezuela by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, demanding a revision.
Venezuela said the allegations in the report presented at the 46th regular session of the UN Human Rights Council were not based on valid investigation.
The administration of President Nicholas Maduro pointed out that the diplomat's report was unbalanced and politically motivated by the United States, through the self-proclaimed Lima Group, which overlooks the norms and principles that rule the treatment of human rights issues.
President Maduro has warned that unless Bachelet rectifies her report and presents an objective view of his country's rights record, instead of sticking to the US rethoric, then relations with her office may be suspended.
Legal experts in Venezuela have likewise disagreed with the UN Commissioner's report, while a number of opposition figures have thrown their weight behind the report, saying it points out the human rights flaws in the Latin American nation.
