Experts discuss ways to boost diplomacy via Nowruz

Nowruz marks the first day of spring and is celebrated on the day of the astronomical vernal equinox, which usually occurs on March 21.

Over 300 million people around the world celebrate the event every year to mark the beginning of the new year. Since almost 3,000 years ago people in West Asia, the Balkans, the Caucasus, Central Asia, and other regions celebrated Nowruz.

At a meeting in Tehran to elaborate on the significance of Nowruz, the attendants from Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and India said Nowruz could be used as a medium to strengthen diplomacy.

We also talked to Iranian foreign ministry officials who attended the conference. They said Nowruz plays a significant role in strengthening the ties among people based on mutual respect and the ideals of peace and good neighborliness.

Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Albania, Republic of Macedonia , India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey and Turkmenistan are the main countries in which people celebrate Nowruz and observe its festivities every year.

Celebrating Nowruz means that life in is harmony with nature and and all must respect natural sources of life. Nowruz promotes values of peace between generations contributing to cultural diversity and companionship among different communities.

Nowruz is recognized by the UNESCO as an intangible cultural Heritage of humanity and it was in 2010 that the United Nations declared March 21 as the international Day of Nowruz.
