2021 will not be any better than the previous years for the health sector in Yemen. This was confirmed by Health Minister Taha Al-Mutawakel in a press conference in the capital, Sana’a, in response to questions regarding the future of the health situation in Yemen amid the war.

The health minister expects 90% of medical equipment to be out of service in the upcoming weeks due to the end of their life span, the continuation of the blockade, and the oil derivatives crisis that has affected the power generation.

The health sector in Yemen has faced a tragic situation since the start of the Saudi-led war on Yemen in March 2015, during which tens of thousands of civilians, including women and children, were killed and millions of families were displaced.

Continued silence is still the position of the United Nations and the international community towards the suffering of the people of Yemen, where the Saudi-led blockade has deprived them of most of their basic needs in life.
