A moment of silence, shock and sorrow that broke out through the air waves like an earthquake in Iran and across the region. Iran's top military commander Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani and Iraq’s senior PMU official Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandes were assassinated last year in Baghdad through the direct orders of US President Donald Trump. Press TV's team was among the first to break the story; baffled by what they had to cover.

Press TV's Yousef Jalali who was one of the first to report the news says that hearts were pounding inside Press TV headquarters in Tehran as the news team tried to get the correct information and produce the most accurate news coverage.

But it wasn't over even months after the assassination of the top Iranian General. Even a year after the terror attack Qasem Soleimani's story is still on top of news conductors in Iran and other countries. General Qassem Soleimani, the commander of Quds Force and his trench mate Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis were assassinated in a US terror drone attack at Baghdad international airport on January 3 2020.

On the anniversary of Soleimani's death journalists are still fully alert given the promise made by Iran to take vengeance for his blood. According to many observers the probability that Iran would retaliate is still very high. Now one year after the terror attack, the question of whether the assassination of the Top Iranian General Qassem Soleimani would help in taming anti US sentiments in the region is yet to be answered.
