Commander: Israeli claims of attack on Iranians in Syria false
The deputy commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) calls the Israeli regime’s bluff about having hit Iranian outposts in Syria.
“They (the Zionists) know well that if they martyred any Iranian serviceman or person, they would surely be met with Iran’s response,” Brigadier General Mohammad Hejazi told Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen television network on Sunday.
He declared that Iran’s presence in the Arab country has always assumed an advisory form, never featuring deployment of servicemen or military units. “Our advisors have been attending [various non-Iranian] military units and providing instructional support,” the official said.
“What they (the Zionists) claim about having hit an outpost or a barracks that belongs to Iran is not right because such things do not exist,” Hejazi clarified.
The Islamic Republic began lending Syria assistance upon the latter’s own request after 2011, when the Arab country found itself in the grip of rampant foreign-backed militancy and terrorism.
Led by the Quds Force’s former commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, the support helped Syria defeat the Takfiri terror group of Daesh in late 2017.
Hejazi went on by expanding on General Soleimani’s personal traits as well as his contribution to the development of the Quds Force and the regional resistance axis.
He said the commander, who was assassinated in a United States’ drone strike against Baghdad last January, enjoyed a practical and strategist character, and helped the IRGC branch “take a great step forward.”
General Soleimani attended regionwide battlefronts over 40 years, never abandoning the frontline, Hejazi said.
The martyr helped invigorate the Palestinians, who used to be armed with just rocks, to such a level that has come to deter Israel from attacking them, the deputy commander said. “Because it (the Israeli regime) knows it would have to pay a dear cost if it attacked them,” he noted.
General Soleimani also contributed to the armament of Hezbollah, Hejazi said, adding that the Lebanese resistance movement now “possesses more missiles than the enemy imagines.”
The deputy commander, meanwhile, cited the Quds Force’s current Commander Brigadier General Esmaeil Qa'ani as saying, “We will continue to pursue General Soleimani’s path.”
