British army muscles in on propaganda opportunity created by new coronavirus strain
As France, and the rest of the European Union (EU), continues to keep their borders closed to human traffic from the UK, the British army has eyed an opportunity to intervene in the developing crisis.
According to Sky News, British officials are working with their French counterparts to come up with a deal that would unlock the French border quickly, perhaps as early as Wednesday (December 23).
The solution would involve the administration of rapid Covid-19 tests on lorry drivers undertaken mostly by the British army.
If the deal goes through, this would be the army’s third major intervention since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.
Earlier this month, the army took over the role of transporting the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine from Belgium to the UK in addition to distributing it to the country’s hospital network.
And at the very onset of the pandemic in March the army said it was prepared to intervene if the pandemic triggered social unrest and political crisis.
The army’s latest propaganda stunt comes in the wake of widespread panic brought about the new and potent Covid-19 variant originating in London and the southeast of England.
Increasingly dubbed the “British virus”, the new variant has prompted more than 50 countries to halt all travel to the UK.
