Afghan government, Taliban reach agreement on main agenda of talks

Finally, the ice of Doha talks is broken after the negotiating teams of the Afghan government and the Taliban militant group agreed on procedural rules for peace negotiations.
The agreement will help both delegations enter a new phase of discussions on the main agenda of talks.
Almost all in Afghanistan are waiting to hear about the fate of the intra-Afghan talks in Qatar. This is because everything is linked to those talks, mainly security and economic issues that have turned into big headaches not only for rural Afghans but also for businessmen and traders.
Top political figures including former president Hamed Karzai have widely welcomed the steps forward in the intra-Afghan talks in Doha saying all Afghans need to work together to bring peace to the war-weary people.
However, Afghans are not sure whether or not their achievements over the last two decades will be protected.
Issues such as respect for the Afghan constitution and women's rights as well as press freedom are among the most important red lines of the Afghan government in talks with the Taliban. However, only time will tell whether or not the Taliban will honor those concerns.
