The match appeared to be heading for a goalless first half, but Belgium midfielder Yannick Carrasco managed to score the only goal of the match from a counter-attack, after nut-megging the oncoming Ter Stegen and then slotting the ball home.
With the victory, Atletico stay behind Real Sociedad on goal difference with 20 points, while Barcelona suffered a third loss in 9 matches, to sit in 10th with 11 points.
