Venezuela's United Socialist Party, the ruling political party directed by President Nicolás Maduro, has started nominating its candidates during a campaign en route to the elections for congress, also known as National Assembly.

Leaders of the socialist party claim that the legislative branch has to reshuffle in order to serve the Venezuelan nation. Over the past five years the opposition has had the majority of legislators and ever since the National Assembly has been used as a means to carry out US plots aimed at destabilizing the country and to removing Maduro from power. Officials say the parliament is about to change.

Meanwhile there are mixed opinions among the opposition. But government supporters have a different approach on the election. Maduro supporters say that a victory of his party in the legislative elections will send a message to the US, proving that Washington's efforts to oust him have totally failed and he still has the support of the people's majority.
