Coronavirus infections among the general population are rapidly rising in the Gaza Strip with nearly five hundred cases being discovered on a daily basis.

On Wednesday four deaths were reported and 600 new infections were detected bringing the number of infections to over twelve thousand. Hospitals in Gaza meanwhile are running low on intensive care units and ventilators as well as medicines and equipment.

During a press conference the ministry of interior in Gaza raised the alarm over the rising the number of infections. Due to the Israeli blockade nearly two million Gazans are under terrible strain and their worries over the Coronavirus have been heavily compounded.

The Coronavirus spread among the general population has taken its toll on the impoverished coastal sliver. A full lockdown was imposed on the Gaza Strip in late August for a period of two weeks after authorities confirmed the first coronavirus cases spread through the community.

The coronavirus continues to threaten the socioeconomic welfare of Palestinians living in Gaza as much as their health. People here are bracing themselves for the worst as coronavirus infections continue to increase at a fast pace amid the crippling Israeli blockade.
