Colombia's Caribbean island of San Andres was pounded on Monday (November 16) by monster Category 5 Hurricane Iota.

Trees could be seen whipping in the wind and stormy seas were visible in a video released by Colombia's navy Monday.

Iota is due to collide with northeastern Nicaragua on Monday night and was packing maximum sustained winds of 160 miles (260 km) per hour, reaching category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) said.

Regarding Colombia's San Andres and Providencia islands, the NHC said in a statement Monday that "hurricane conditions and storm surge impacts are likely still occurring on Providencia. Tropical storm conditions are expected and hurricane conditions are possible on San Andres."
