Hamas denounces as ‘crime’ Israel’s recent demolition campaign in Jordan Valley
Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has lambasted as “a crime” Israel’s recent demolition of Palestinian homes and buildings of a Bedouin community in the northern Jordan Valley in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and displacing their desperate inhabitants.
In a press release, Hamas said the Israeli regime’s recent demolition and displacement campaign in the impoverished Bedouin community of Hemsa al-Foqa entailed international accountability and punishment, the Palestinian Information Center reported on Saturday.
The resistance movement also warned that Tel Aviv’s escalation of its demolition campaigns in the Jordan Valley was aimed at removing the true residents of the region in an attempt to replace them with Israeli settlers.
Israeli authorities usually demolish Palestinian homes in the occupied West Bank, claiming that the structures have been built without permits, which are nearly impossible to obtain. They also sometimes order Palestinian owners to demolish their own homes or pay the demolition costs to the municipality if they do not.
Hamas also denounced Tel Aviv for implementing its highly controversial annexation plans in the occupied West Bank on the ground through carrying out such campaigns.
The resistance movement further called for launching a national strategy that could use all forms of resistance against the persisting Israeli occupation in a bid to protect the Palestinian territories and thwart the regime’s annexation plans.
Earlier in the day, Jordan also called on the international community to put pressure on the Israeli regime to cease demolishing Palestinian homes in the occupied West Bank and rescind a threat to destroy Palestinian educational centers.
On Thursday, The European Union (EU), for its part, called on Israel to stop demolishing Palestinian homes and buildings in the occupied West Bank and withdraw its threat to demolish Palestinian schools, while slamming the move as “an impediment" toward the so-called two-state solution.”
All Israeli settlements are illegal under international law. The UN Security Council has condemned Israel’s settlement activities in the occupied territories in several resolutions.
Palestinians want the West Bank as part of a future independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem al-Quds as its capital.
