At least 4 civilians killed, several others wounded in bomb attack in Syria’s Hasakah
At least four civilians have been killed and several others wounded in a bomb attack in Syria’s northeastern province of Hasakah, the state media reports.
On Saturday, three women and an aged man lost their lives when a booby-trapped motorbike exploded in a market in Haji Wasfi neighborhood of the border town of Ra's al-Ayn, Syria's official news agency SANA reported, citing civil sources.
It added that at least five other civilians were seriously wounded in the explosion, which inflicted material damage to the marketplace.
Every so often, bomb attacks claim the lives of civilians in the strategic town, which is under the occupation of Turkish troops and their allied militants for almost a year.
Turkish-backed militants were deployed to northern Syria last October after Turkish military forces launched a long-threatened cross-border invasion in a declared attempt to push the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) militants away from border areas.
The Turkish government views the US-backed YPG as a terrorist organization tied to the homegrown Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which has been seeking an autonomous Kurdish region in Turkey since 1984.
Separately on Saturday, a militant from the Kurdish-led and so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) was shot dead by an unknown gunman in Syria’s eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr, SANA reported.
The YPG acts as the backbone of the US-supported SDF militant group.
The report added that the SDF militant was gunned down after one of the group’s positions in al-Kibar village in Dayr al-Zawr’s western countryside was attacked.
On Friday, another SDF militant was also killed by an explosion of a landmine laid by unknown persons in the surroundings of Tall Tamer town, north of Hasakah.
