Multiple Kenosha shootings show gov’t can’t provide security

Residents of Kenosha, Wisconsin, say that multiple shootings over the past week reveal the inability of the United States government to achieve their most fundamental task: giving basic physical security to its citizens.
Even before Jacob Blake was paralyzed from seven bullets in the back from a policeman, it has been internationally acknowledged that Black people suffer from apartheid-like brutality in the US.
But more shootings continued as angry rebellions against police brutality went unpacified. Amid nightly chaos, an armed teenager shot three protesters, one of whom was armed as well, killing two of them.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights said it was “inconceivable that you have a 17-year-old running around with a (semi-)automatic rifle”. However, the teenager’s many defenders in the US point out that he was only on the streets because the government had proven unwilling or unable to protect Kenosha.
Local analysts said the recurring madness is because the government is deeply divided on the issue of providing basic safety and human rights to everyone.
The shootings between civilians Kenosha has remained largely peaceful, but it still faces the intimidating task of restoring communal harmony. Many wonder if Kenosha’s unprecedented mayhem has permanently changed how the world views the United States.
Many mainstream commentators warned that the recent visit of President Donald Trump would provoke more night-time violence, yet Kenosha remained calm. But with a downtown completely covered in defensive fortifications, it is clear that an incredibly high feeling of insecurity remains rampant.
