First Iranian supermarket opens in Venezuela

A video grab shows banners advertising Iranian products at the entrance of the first Iranian supermarket in Caracas, Venezuela, on July 29, 2020.

The first Iranian supermarket in Venezuela opened its doors in Caracas on Wednesday, in an inauguration ceremony attended by the Iranian ambassador.

The supermarket will sell food and other basic goods shipped from Iran. In recent months, Tehran has also shipped gasoline as well as ingredients to help the South American country restart its own oil refineries, amid a years-long economic crisis and shortages.

US President Donald Trump's administration has imposed heavy sanctions on both countries in recent years.
