Iran boosts production of PPE to fight second wave of pandemic

The Basij volunteer force in the Province of Alborz and Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps have joined forces with provincial authorities to produce face masks.
According to the project manager, the protective face masks are being distributed across the province in pharmacies and hospitals as a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic has sent demand soaring.
The mass production of Personal Protective Equipment began after the government issued an emergency authorization in March for the production of medical protective gear, expediting a nationwide program that usually takes months to announce and implement. That speed was a key factor in the country’s ability to impose social distancing measures and bring the number of infections under control during the first wave in March.
Face masks and PPE have become central to the COVID-19 conversation as the disease tightens its grip on the Iranian nation. They are regarded as essential items in hospitals and medical centers, where the equipment could prove the difference between life and death for doctors, nurses and patients.
Under the new guidelines by the National Task Force for Fighting coronavirus, wearing face masks in public has become compulsory. The nationwide measure is aimed at slowing down the transition of the disease. The plan will be extended until August, if necessary.
