Torrential rain in China triggers flood, causing locals to evacuate

Torrential rain continued to wreak havoc in northeast China's Jilin province, southwest China's Yunnan province and east China's Anhui province over the past few days, causing locals to evacuate and forcing sections of a highway to shut down.

Two people were trapped in a vehicle in Wuding county, Chuxiong Yi autonomous prefecture of Yunnan on Thursday afternoon as they attempted to drive through the flood. They were evacuated by police eventually.

Jilin provincial meteorological observatory on Sunday issued an orange alert for heavy rain, the second highest warning for the rainstorm.

China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow and blue.

The torrential rain triggered flood had left locals trapped in their cars and houses, waiting for others to evacuate.

Two people were evacuated after being trapped in flood on Sunday night in Qian'an county, Songyuan city of Jilin.

The persistent rainstorm also caused landslide on a section of a highway in Anhui province on Monday morning, forcing multiple entrances to shut down and interrupt traffic.

After intensive efforts, three entrances to the highway have reopened to public as of 12:40 Monday.
