Iranian state TV has provided video footage of the site of recent explosions at a gas storage facility to the east of the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Social media users began circulating images of the explosions at around 00:30 a.m. local time on Friday (08:00 p.m. GMT on Thursday).

Second Brigadier General Davoud Abdi, the director general of the Iranian Defense Ministry’s Public Relations Office, told IRNA that the facility was located in an open area in Parchin District near Tehran.

An initial explosion on one tank had caused two others to also explode.

Since no one was at the facility at the time of the blasts and the site was far from residential areas, the explosions caused no casualties despite their massive scale.

The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) news agency also attributed the blasts to a fire at the first gas tank.
