Iran’s care home death toll from coronavirus among lowest in the world

At a time when residents of nursing homes account for a staggering proportion of COVID-19 deaths in the United States and Europe, data shows such deaths now account for a significantly smaller portion of fatalities in Iran.
The government says this is due to widespread testing and access to personal protective equipment such as masks which have helped efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 in care homes. The government also says the country no longer lives in fear and that even high risk businesses will soon be allowed to reopen.
Nursing homes have been closed to the public for months in Iran, and authorities have banned visitors from them. Officials say that is another reason why they have also had the lowest number of fatalities in the region.
Thirty-one provinces continue to shield these facilities from the outbreak just as the government slowly begins to reengage the economy and end all travel and business restrictions.
Iran continues to loosen coronavirus restrictions, opening intercity highways and shopping malls. Retailers in high-end shopping malls and Tehran's famous Grand Bazaar can now resume work. Other businesses including restaurants and gyms remain closed until further notice.
